Zombie Colony is a resource based camp building survival horror game. Collect resources, build your camp, and protect your survivors from the horrors that besiege your walls.
Your survivors require food and medicine. You need materials to build your camp, your generators need fuel, and your guns need bullets. These are the absolute necessities for survival, and they can only be found by scavenging from your surroundings. Eventually you must leave the safety and comfort of your camp if you want to live. The shambling, infected corpses that inhabit the world that was once yours have the advantages of hearing and numbers; alerting one, or making too much noise, could easily attract far too many zombies for you to handle. Although there are many ways of dispatching them, each method of execution carries its own danger. You must remember to protect yourself from all threats, from reinforced clothing to protect against claws and bites to the weapons that you choose to carry with you, but nothing is more essential than your mask. The infection spreads easily; scratches, bites, or even the spray of rancid blood. Contact with the eyes, nose, ears and mouth are almost guaranteed infection. Venturing off without it is a death sentence. And you absolutely must not die. Your people—your survivors—are counting on you to keep them alive, so you must be cautious. If they find you, they will follow you. The noise will bring even more zombies. You may have no choice but to go loud, to abandon all hopes of remaining silent, and get back to the safety of your camp at any means neccessary. Once there, you and your survivors must hold the walls and kill anything that tries to threaten your safety. They will come, and there will be endless numbers. If you manage to kill the horde, or distract them somehow, your camp will enjoy a small period of peace. Now is when you can use the scrap you brought to build more workshops or improve your camp, crafting new weapons and building new defenses. You can care for your injured and infected, and you can give your people some time to eat and rest. But as always... your survivors require food and medicine.
Zombie Colony is a combination of many different genres of game. At its core, it's a combination of Real-Time Strategy and First Person Shooter, but there are elements from Horde Mode games, Survival Horror, City Simulation, and even RPG's.
In every other zombie game or movie I've seen, the goal is to escape. The goal is to run from safe house to safe house, searching for "the cure" or some safe haven where you don't have to fight for every inch of ground and minute of your life. In Zombie Colony, the goal is cohabitation. You must build that safe haven. You are building the refuge that other survivors will spread rumors of.
We are using Kickstarter in the most literal of senses: we are giving this game the injection of time and resources it needs. We aren’t promising a finished final copy by the end of our development cycle. Instead, we’re promising the beginning of an amazing adventure; one that everyone has a stake in.
We believe that to develop an amazing game, feedback from you guys, the players, is extremely important. Thus, one of the biggest features of Zombie Colony will be the ability to give feedback from within the game itself. As long as you are online, you will always have the option to message us from within the game. While you wait on things in the game to happen (such as a round to begin, or other players to hit a “ready” button) you can submit votes for polls in-game. This way everyone has a voice in the game’s development. We will also be constantly releasing the results of certain polls and giving you our thoughts and plans as well in bi-weekly developer podcasts.
Backing the game will get you special rewards as well. There are the obvious rewards, such as getting the game as soon as it’s ready or getting bits of concept art and wallpapers. But there are other more specialized rewards as well; such as getting your voice and/or name inside the game, getting the original copies of concept sketches, or even becoming a part of a special playtesting team that we go to with very early builds of the game.
We are well aware that this is one hell of an ambitious project. We are aware as well that people will be skeptical of us, having all this experience in our fields but no official titles to our names. That is why we’re putting so much of an emphasis on interaction with our community. Talk to us. Email us at email@example.com. We love to talk about Zombie Colony (no really, it’s getting on all our friends’ nerves).
So thank you, on behalf of the entire Zombie Colony team.
ZombieFish is a team of gamers. We are artists and developers that decided we wanted to have fun with our projects.
